White Plains Celebrates St. Patrick's Day

Painted down the center of Mamaroneck Avenue is a bright green stripe, signaling the approach of St. Patrick's Day in White Plains. At noon on Saturday March 14th, the annual parade will wind its way through downtown, terminate at the steps of City Hall, and be followed by a "cultural tour." Revelry will continue into the evening at a multitude of pubs, accessible by a free tram generously provided by the White Plains Bus Company. Rides depart from Main Street and North Broadway at 1:30pm. Please don't drink and drive.
Suspect Sought in Stop and Shop Robbery

The White Plains Police Department is looking for assistance in identifying a bank-robbery suspect. The photo is of a male subject that got about $6,000 from the Citizen’s Bank within the Stop and Shop Supermarket at 154 Westchester Ave. Monday (2/23) morning just before 11 a. m. The subject left on foot towards Westchester Avenue.

Poetry SLAM at Library
and The Big Read for Westchester

Competitive poetry may sound contradictory, until you find yourself at a Poetry SLAM. After an exhilarating first hour by National Slam Team member “Eco-Billy,” Christian Drake, on Wed., Feb. 4, at White Plains Library, local registrants spoke their own poetry in a strictly formatted program. Each of the eight poets had a maximum of three minutes to perform an original work and received scores on a scale of 0 to 10 by five judges appointed by co-host and local slam master Eric ZORK Alan, taking both words and performance into account. Highest and lowest scores were tossed and the top five scorers advanced to the final round.

Dr. Christopher Clouet to Replace Timothy Connors

Amidst financial turmoil and one of the toughest school budget years on record, the White Plains Board of Education recently confirmed that Dr. Christopher Clouet has been appointed to succeed Timothy P. Connors as superintendent of schools on July 1 (White Plains Times, In Our Schools, Jan. 16/23). On Monday night the Board of Education voted unanimously to hire Dr. Clouet to a four-year term lasting through 2013.
